Graphic Design

Graphic design has a large number of applications, and is used extensively in the media especially. Any time you see an advert on a billboard, graphic design has been used in its production and conception; equally, if you look in an engineering textbook, the schematics shown in there have also been influenced by graphic design. It is basically used when a specific message needs to be conveyed to a specific group of people, most usually a target audience. This is why the most common of graphic design is in the media, where precise messages are very important, and it is equally important that they are communicated in the right way.

There are many more applications of graphic design than in the media, however. Another common use is in reference manuals and in textbooks, where it is necessary to convey a particular idea, example, explanation or the like in a simple but detailed manner. This has lead to experimentation within graphic design of the best way in which to get the message across, and the process has been long and arduous. As such, in the beginning the kinds of graphic design techniques may have been in the experimental stage, and in some textbooks diagrams may not seem quite as clear as in modern textbooks due to this. A lot of thought goes in to producing an image that conveys a specific message, because if it is a complex idea or point, then it can easily get lost in translation.
